Welcome the Stranger Service

Thank you to all who attended the lovely service at St. Monica’s Church.

Welcoming the Stranger with the Lampedusa Cross

St Monica’s parish, Enfield the Welcoming the Stranger group hosted the event at Palmers Green. See www.thestations.org.uk for further information.

In the service, Fr Paulo explained about the refugee situation and the significance of the Lampedusa cross.

The service was attended by representatives from the Enfield Refugee Welcome Group, including CAFOD Volunteer Frances Halliday and Alan Seldon from St Monica’s parish. Information leaflets were distributed to everyone who attended. See http://www.enfieldrefugeewelcome.org/

St Monica’s has already had a collection which raised £2700, with the Church of Christ the King, Cockfosters raising an additional £1400.

We are also aware that many of our Volunteers and Supporters will also be organising a soup lunch this Friday 10 March as a symbolic gesture of Lent Fast Day.

CAFOD Westminster welcomes CAFOD partner Father Pius Win Than!

CAFOD Westminster were delighted to welcome Father Pius Win Than to the Church of Christ the King, Cockfosters on Saturday.


Father Pius is the Associate Director or Caritas Pathein, a local CAFOD partner based in Myanmar.


After celebrating Mass with the Parish Priest, Father Sebastian, Father Pius shared his experiences working in the Pathein diocese in Myanmar.


Father Pius’ diocese was particularly affected by Cyclone Nargis and Caritas Pathein works with the poor and vulnerable communities in the Diocese, helping communities to mitigate disasters through supporting the development of emergency preparedness plans and increasing their understanding of their basic human rights.
