After much planning the Pedal Against Poverty event arrived at St John Fisher Catholic Church!
Inspired by the 2015 Pedal Against Poverty event from, CAFOD volunteer Marietta Bourke and her team of 8 set out on Sunday 10th July, on their Pedal Against Poverty cycle ride.
Excitement for the first CAFOD Pedal Against Poverty event the CAFOD team met on Friday evening to decorate the foyer and outside with banners and balloons, to the delight of spectators and parishioners alike. CAFOD would also like to take the opportunity to not only thank those involved in the event, but also for his support.
The teams were waved off from 9.30am mass by the parishioners and welcome back by 11.30am mass parishioners. Father Agustin had also arranged the annual parish party so the team were able to celebrate in style upon their return!
For CAFOD volunteer Marietta Bourke, the most enjoyable part of the event was “Raising awareness about poverty and CAFOD, engaging more parishioners through support and the vision of us in our CAFOD bibs. We had sourced a wonderful route to Northala Fields – some of the team had never been there – so another bonus. We were also promoting cycling – which ties in with our travel plan.”
This is the first time the event has been run, but it won’t be the last with plans for another event next year!
Thank you to the cyclists and parishioners for your support, assisting CAFOD in our determined effort to end poverty and injustice.
