CAFOD is sad to report the death of Jean Slade, a CAFOD volunteer who sadly passed away last Tuesday 29th June.
Today we remember CAFOD volunteer Jean Slade as she is welcomed into the arms of our father in heaven. As a volunteer Jean was very active Justice and Peace worker and CAFOD volunteer for many years from Mary Immaculate & St Gregory parish in Barnet.
“I will fondly remember Jean’s warm and fun personality as well as her passion for Justice and working for a better world.” (CAFOD Volunteer Centre Coordinator Tony Sheen)
Jean took part in many Parliamentary Lobbies campaigning for Justice and Peace issues.
She spoke regularly for many years from the altar, on behalf of CAFOD regarding our twice yearly CAFOD Fast Days, both in her on Parish as well in other parts of the Diocese. In doing so, she raised the profile of the lives of our brothers and sisters in the developing world and how people could support them through CAFOD.
In addition, Jean was a founder member of the North London Justice and Peace Network, was a keen promoter of Fairtrade and an active member of Pax Christi. As a member of the local OXFAM group, Jean volunteered at the Barnet Oxfam Shop from when it opened until ill health overtook her and used her professional skills as a librarian to maintain the book section.
“We recall Jean’s love of people, which must have lead her to volunteer for CAFOD and her bubbly personality, which meant the ordinary Catholic in the the pew could easily identify with her; this was especially useful when promoting CAFOD Fast Days etc” (Malcolm and Josie Green)
Her funeral Mass will be at 10.00am on Tuesday 19th July at the church of Mary Immaculate and St Gregory, 82 Union Street, Barnet, EN5 4HZ
May Jean Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. Amen
