On Wednseday, 15 April, parishioners and Justice and Peace members at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St George, Enfield, welcomed Fr Pius for an evening talk about his work as Associate Director of Caritas Pathein. Caritas Pathein works with poor and vulnerable communities in the Diocese of Pathein, in Myanmar, helping communities to mitigate disasters through supporting the development of emergency preparedness plans and increasing their understanding of their basic human rights.
Fr Pius also made a visit to the home of long-standing CAFOD campaigner Dorothy McSweeny, 97. Dorothy lived in Myanmar with her father, a teacher, until World War 2, and was delighted to hear more about the work of CAFOD’s partners in the country.
Dorothy has campaigned with CAFOD on the issue of climate change and its effects on communities in the developing world, so she was especially interested to hear about Fr Pius’ work helping vulnerable communities adapt and cope with increasingly extreme weather conditions.
If you are interested in hearing first-hand about how your Lenten contributions are helping CAFOD’s partners in Myanmar, and around the world, to cope with increasingly hostile weather, come along to our One Climate, One World campaign evening this Tuesday, 21 April. You will have the chance to meet Fr Pius and hear about his work, as well as getting an update on the progress of CAFOD’s One Climate, One World campaign in the run up to the general election! The evening will run from 6pm at Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road, Lambeth, SE1 7JB.
