Long-time CAFOD supporter Malcolm Green recently celebrated his 40th anniversary of becoming a Catholic. Here he reflects on 40 years as a Catholic and nearly as long as a supporter of CAFOD:
‘Shortly after being received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church 40 years ago I was very impressed with something that Cardinal Heenan wrote about CAFOD and Friday abstinence for my first Advent (or was it Lent) in the Church. Ever since then I have made a monthly donation to CAFOD by standing order, latterly direct debit. My 40th anniversary this year just happened to coincide with CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day on Friday 3rd October, so after thanking God at the 12:30 Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St George, Enfield, I celebrated with a Bread, Cheese and Fish Pate Lunch in aid of CAFOD. Some of the guests had been fellow pilgrims with me for the whole of that 40 years in the Enfield parish. We raised at least £123, with some of the guests promising to up their donation the following Sunday. If you would like join me by setting up a regular gift to CAFOD by direct debit, it can easily be set up using this link cafod.org.uk/give and using the regular gift tab.
Last year with my wife Josie, I attended a CAFOD day at Amigo Hall, Southwark where we discovered Ecotricity, a 100% green ethical electricity provider and the greenest gas supplier. Being very concerned about Climate Change we were pleased to be some of the first to sign up via CAFOD, which means Ecotricity give a donation to CAFOD. For more details please see cafod.org.uk/ecotricity.’
Thanks to Malcolm and his fellow parishioners at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St George for their wonderful efforts to make a place at their table this Harvest Fast Day.
