The parish of St John Fisher, Shepperton, hosted its fifth annual Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor Charity Golf Day at Laleham Golf Club, Surry on Saturday, 26 April. Volunteer Sadie Cissell wrote to share how the day went:
The success of this event we have now had our 5th golfing event on Saturday 26th April 2014 at Laleham Golf Club in Surrey in aid of the Cardinal’s choice of charity CAFOD. Over the five years, this fun day has raised over £10,000 and the total for this year was £2114:09 with all funds again to go to CAFOD.
This was the first time St. John Fisher Church had hosted this event without Father Peters famous golf swing due to him moving to his new Parish in London. Father Tom, St. John Fisher’s new Parish Priest had no problem replacing Father Peters swing and happily settled straight into playing at this golfing event just like the old golfing professional that he is, although off course Father Peter was greatly missed.
At the start of the day there were bacon butties and a raffle, followed by 18 holes of golf where 32 golfers survived some hail and sunshine. But everyone who went out with a smile also came back looking happy, a few comments at church the following day regarding aching muscles, I heard something being blamed about the wet grass for that!!
The Cardinal sent his best to the winner as he could not attend as he was in Rome. The winner was Bill Smyth, followed by a very close second Conie Mascarenhas. Harry Cissell , the President of this golfing society came third. Well done to them and to everyone involved!
Special thanks as well go out to all the financial support from our kind and generous sponsors: Clover Shipping, Lanix, Kelly Group Telecommunications, Green Lane Solutions, Robert Reynolds, Nigel Wilson, Ann Montier, Mark Stohert, Lodge Brothers Shepperton, Bond Davidson and London Irish Rugby – Thank you !
