A huge thank you to James Elliott, from Enfield, for entering this year’s London Marathon on behalf of CAFOD!
James, who works as Assistant Head Concierge at a top London hotel, will take on the gruelling 26 mile challenge next Sunday, 13 April. He decided to run for CAFOD after being inspired at an RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) meeting, where a visiting representative described our long-term efforts to help developing communities work for a better quality of life.
On Thursday, 3 April, James’ parish of Our Lady and St George, London Road, wished him luck and offered their support at a special event organised by the Mount Carmel Ladies Group. James also used this opportunity to announce a raffle he is running to raise even more money for CAFOD, with the first prize of a night in the top London Hotel where he works. The Mount Carmel Ladies group also held a collection, raising a fantastic £269 for CAFOD!
Former parish priest, Bishop John Arnold, spoke at the event, expressing his best wishes for James as he prepares for the run, and describing some of the work his fundraising could support. He gave examples of the humanitarian work he had witnessed in the Philippines following the Typhoon last November, and praised CAFOD’s commitment to providing both short-term relief and long-term support in the wake of disasters.
Thank you again to James, the Mount Carmel Ladies Group and everyone involved in last nights’ event, and best of luck with the run! With the weather getting nicer everyday, now is a fantastic time to get outside and show your support for CAFOD by taking part in a sponsored sporting event.
