A massive thank you goes out to all the teachers, pupils and parents at St Thomas More RC primary school, Berkhamstead, for their recent Harvest Silver Trail fundraising event for CAFOD!
On Harvest Fast Day, which took place last month, pupils at St Thomas More went without their usual mid-morning snack and instead each placed a silver coin, forming a trail that spelled out ‘STM’, the initials of the school. In addition to raising funds to help support CAFOD’s work, this also helped the children to appreciate food, a blessing that we often take for granted, and to understand that sadly not everyone has access to this most basic necessity of life.
Even as CAFOD responds to emergencies, such as the Typhoon Haiyan disaster in the Philippines and the conflict in Syria, its long-term development work goes on around the world. The ongoing Hungry for Change campaign aims to tackle the shocking injustice in the global food system, which currently leaves one eighth of the world’s population without enough to eat.
