Congratulations and many happy returns to St John the Evangelist parish, Islington, which recently celebrated its 170th birthday!
The celebrations took place on Sunday 30 June. Archbishop Vincent Nichols celebrated the special anniversary Mass, along with parish priest Father Howard James, and a total of three choirs led the congregation in jubilant song. Afterwards, parishioners and special guests moved outside for a street party in the sunshine, with the sound of a steel band adding to the joyful atmosphere.
CAFOD Westminster’s Tony Sheen joined the parish for their celebrations.
“It was a really great day,” said Tony. “The mass was lovely and the street party was great fun. I was thrilled to join the parishioners as they celebrated 170 years. Both the parish and its local primary school are generous supporters of CAFOD. Thanks for all your hard work and happy birthday St John the Evangelist!”
