St Anne’s raise £1400 for CAFOD this Lent

A big thank you goes out to the students and staff at St Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls in Palmers Green who raised an amazing £1400 for CAFOD this Lent.

The school raised the money by holding a series of frugal homemade soup and roll lunches and own-clothes days to collect donations throughout Lent. The money will go towards CAFOD’s ongoing Hungry for Change campaign which aims to make establishing a fairer global food system a government priority.

A team of CAFOD volunteers are this week paying visits to the school to thank them for their hard work raising money for those in need. CAFOD Westminster’s diocesan manager Tony Sheen said:

“Thank you to everyone at St Anne’s for the marvellous fundraising activities you’ve been organising. We are really grateful for your support this Lent. Thank you  for supporting CAFOD’s twice yearly Fast Days as well as taking part in the Pedal Against Poverty sponsored bike ride over the past few years. Through this fundraising you are helping  CAFOD to continue it’s important work helping our brothers and sisters in the developing world.”

The school is a long-time supporter of CAFOD, taking an active part in campaigns such as Hungry for Change and getting involved in events like the Pedal Against Poverty sponsored bike ride.

Thanks again to everyone at St Anne’s for their fantastic work supporting CAFOD, and to the teachers and staff for working so hard organising all the events. The money raised is enough to buy 14 cows for families in the developing world, which can be used to produce milk and dairy products to be eaten or sold.

If you are interested in taking action by fundraising or campaigning there are plenty of upcoming oportunities to get involved:

On 8 June, CAFOD will be joining forces with other major charities to take part in the IF Moment – a massive gathering of campaigners in Hyde Park to bring the importance of food equality to the attention of the G8 leaders at their summit. We want YOU to join together with us and really help to change the way the most powerful nations in the world prioritise and react to global food issues. To find out more, click here.

CAFOD’s annual Pedal Against Poverty sponsored bike ride will this year take place on Sunday 23 June. This is a fantastic chance to get the whole family out for a refreshing summer cycle and raise money for those in need at the same time. To find out more click here, or to book a place contact the CAFOD Westminster office on 0208 449 6970 or westminster@cafod.org.uk.
