CAFOD is responding to the devastating crisis in Syria, which has uprooted millions of people from their homes.
This is a humanitarian emergency on a staggering scale: “We are facing a crisis as big as the one in Haiti after the earthquake,” says Mike Noyes, CAFOD’s Head of Humanitarian Programmes.
Food supplies have been cut off: the United Nations says that 2.5 million people in Syria are in urgent need of food aid. Many of those who have been forced from their homes also need help finding shelter. Meanwhile, thousands of refugees are streaming across the borders into Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan every day. The refugees need food, water and safe places to stay.
CAFOD is helping local church organisations in Syria, Lebanon and Turkey to provide life-saving food, clothes and relief supplies to those most in need.
