Are you looking for one last fun run to round off the year? The Nativity Run is an excellent chance to get in the Christmas spirit and raise money for the world’s poorest communities. Participants can chose to run or walk but if you need a fitness boost, we have just the opportunity to get you ready!
CAFOD supporter Diana trains every Saturday in Springfield Park, E5 between 12pm and 1pm, come rain, snow, or shine. Between now and the Nativity Run on December 17, her trainer, Richard Wallace, of Acewall Health and Fitness, has offered to turn Diana’s training hour into a group training session for anyone interested in taking part in the Nativity Run.
“I really wouldn’t be ready for this without [Richard’s] support,” said Diana, of Stamford Hill, “I’ll be 59 this week, and I have to work hard to stay fit.”
The Nativity Run takes place on 17 December 2011 in Clapham Common. Participants run or walk 5km dressed as their favourite nativity character—everything from wise men, shepherds, sheep, Joseph, Mary, and even the stable—with prizes for the most creative costume. At the end of the run, participants can join in the festive atmosphere with delicious mince pies, warm winter Pimms, and Christmas carols.
In addition to the fun, the sponsorship money raised through the Nativity Run helps CAFOD provide basic essentials to the world’s poorest communities, something which Diana believes we take for granted in the UK.
“Every day we have food in our shops, fresh water to drink and running water in our homes for washing and cleaning. When we step outside the streets are paved and clean and our infrastructure works. It is not like this in many parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America.”
So why not join Diana and run to help CAFOD create Just One World? If you are interested in taking part in a group training session with Diana, contact us at CAFOD Westminster office: 0208 449 6970 or email@example.com.
Entry to the Nativity Run costs £10 for adults, £5 for 12-18s and is free for under 12s. For more info, including how to register and get sponsorship forms, click on http://www.cafod.org.uk/nativityrun.
