Kenya trip: Watershed moment

We went on a walk today through the slum of Korogucho and ended up in the only city dump of Nairobi. As we approached the 500 acre and 500 foot deep dump, we saw a child of about of six rummaging through the rubbish looking for anything of value.

200 yards beyond this child we suddenly realised there was hoards of people blended in with the rubbish doing the same job as the bare footed little girl. Despite the overwhelming smell and the smoke and fire created by the chemicals buried in the rubbish we lingered long enough to hear the stories of some of our new friends who had grown up in this place.
